OPPO F5 (32GB and 64GB) smartphone - advantages and disadvantages

This is not the first time that the Chinese company Oppo is making an attempt to enter the Russian market and promote its devices in our country. Let's say right away that the previous times ended in a loud failure. Smartphones of a little-known company simply got lost in the shadow of their eminent brothers and did not cause a stir in stores. We decided to talk in detail about the next device that appeared in Russia - OPPO F5 (32GB and 64GB) and discuss all its advantages and disadvantages.

In 2018, the market is filled with expensive flagships from well-known brands. The selection criteria for all users is different, but manufacturers from year to year strive to improve the ergonomics and performance of their devices, relying on the wishes of buyers.

Increasingly, side by side with well-known and eminent devices, there are lesser-known Chinese "comrades" trying to attract the attention of users, despite the colossal competition.

One such device is the Oppo F5, which comes with 32GB and 64GB of storage. The Oppo company is practically unknown in our country, therefore it has not yet been able to win the attention and love of customers.

We will tell you about what smartphone developers offer us, and why it is worth giving it a chance.

Contents of delivery

Models are available on the market in several colors: black, gold, red.

The kit includes a USB cable, power adapter, voluminous instructions and a simple headset. Also in the set there is a protective plastic case, which does not differ in perfect design or pleasant materials. It looks rather rough, and it also enlarges the body of the phone in volume. However, finding a suitable case for Chinese models can be difficult, so its presence in the delivery set can already be considered a big plus.

Design and usability

The design of the smartphone at first glance is no different from most of its Chinese brothers, but it is quite pleasant to hold it in your hand, thanks to the metal coating and rounded side edges.

The phone is surprisingly light and thin, however, it still strives to slip out of your fingers, which is a big disadvantage. The device does not lie flat on the table either, swinging from side to side from any pressing, which significantly interferes with working with it.

The phone is equipped with 2.5D Gorilla Glass 5 and there is no event indicator, which will be a disappointment for many users.

The fingerprint scanner works as it should, recognition and access are fast and hassle-free. Portrait photography authorization works smartly and without problems even in a darkened room.

The physical keys are located at the same level on both side edges, which can cause a lot of inconvenience to users. When you squeeze the smartphone in your hand, there is a chance to press all the keys at the same time, so it will take some getting used to.

The Oppo F5 is equipped with a Micro-USB 2.0 connector, 3.5mm audio jack and a pair of microphones at the top and bottom.

The phone is equipped with two slots for SIM cards of the size Nano, there is also a slot for a memory card.

Screen

Oppo F5 received an IPS display covered with 2.5D Gorilla Glass 5. The physical dimensions of the screen are 68 × 136 mm with a diagonal of 6 inches. Display resolution - 2160 × 1080 (18: 9).

The ambient light sensor (to the right of the loudspeaker) adjusts the automatic brightness control well (both indoors and outdoors). There is also a night mode, which does not let your eyes get tired even with prolonged use of a smartphone.

Thanks to the high maximum brightness, you can easily use the device even on a very sunny day.

There is absolutely no screen flickering, the colors are bright, saturated and contrasting.

The screen is scratch-resistant, has good anti-reflective properties and an oleophobic (grease-repellent) coating that protects the screen from fingerprints. Multi-touch supports up to 10 touches at a time.

Camera

Oppo has put special emphasis on the characteristics of the front camera, which will undoubtedly delight selfie lovers. The 20 megapixels combined with the f / 2.0 lens aperture and 1 / 2.8-inch CMOS sensor size allow you to take clear and high-quality images. Photos are well detailed, color reproduction is realistic, although the dynamic range is far from ideal. Even under standard shooting conditions, overexposures and glare can be encountered.

The Oppo F5 has built-in SelfieTune hardware that enhances image capture technology and further processing. The program is able to recognize more than two hundred points on the face, creating improved, but the most natural photos.

However, in practice, photos are obtained from photoshopped according to all the canons of the Asian beauty industry. Smoothing textures makes the face look like a Barbie face, so not everyone will be able to fall in love with the built-in beautifier.

The main camera is equipped with 16 megapixels (even less than the front one) and an f / 1.8 lens. Users have rewarded autofocus with a ton of positive reviews. It turned out to be fast, you can be sure that the pictures will be clear.

The interface is simple, there are no special shooting settings. There is only a scrolling bar with a choice of shooting mode, everything is pretty minimalistic.

There are no complaints about the quality of the picture, the camera copes with its work quite adequately both indoors and outdoors at different times of the day. The high resolution allows you to shoot almost anything without worrying about losing fine details.

Video shooting supports a maximum resolution of 1080p, which is slightly lower than that of the world leaders, but overall this is a good indicator

Telephone part and communications

There are no complaints about the function of making calls. The voice of the interlocutor is heard clearly and without noise, the volume is sufficient even under conditions of city noise, there are no disconnections. The phone is equipped with the function of recording incoming and outgoing calls, which works properly and is really easy to use.

The phone supports two SIM cards in Dual SIM Dual Standby mode. In active standby mode, the smartphone supports both SIM cards in both 3G and 4G modes at the same time. The user can pre-select a card that will later be used for SMS messages and voice calls. By the way, the vibrating alert is rather weak here, you can simply not feel it through your pocket or even a bag.

The phone works flawlessly in both Wi-Fi bands (2.4 and 5 GHz), during Internet surfing, there were no questions about the module's operation.There is support for creating a wireless access point via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth channels - Bluetooth version 4.2 is supported.

The main disappointment was the lack of an NFC module in the phone. In 2018, contactless payment in stores has become commonplace, it's strange that the developers did not take care of such an important detail.

Software and multimedia

The phone is equipped with the Google Android 7.1 software platform with its own Color OS shell (version 3.2). The interface is as close as possible to the "apple" devices, the appearance and size of the icons, the notification and settings panel (moved down, as in iOS). Like the iPhone, the Oppo F5 does not provide for device reboot, it only has a power off button, which is a rather unpleasant disadvantage of the device.

There is support for gestures, but this feature will be difficult for many users. There are many gestures, a specific part of the screen is allocated for each. It's easy to miss and instead of opening a browser, let's say you call your colleague.

Among the useful programs are compass, voice recorder, FM radio, own store of phone themes and a nice addition: two-window mode (split-screen).

The internal audio player has a nice interface and simple functionality, it supports all modern audio formats. Unfortunately, the smartphone is not able to impress users with excellent sound quality. Music from both the speaker and headphones will sound average and not have a very wide dynamic range. And frankly speaking, the volume is sometimes not enough.

Performance

  • Single-chip system MediaTek MT6763T, 8 64-bit ARM Cortex-A53 cores.
  • The graphics are controlled by a 2-core GPU ARM Mali-G71 (frequency 770 MHz).
  • The amount of RAM is 4/8 GB, built-in 32/64 GB.
  • The memory can be expanded with a microSD card up to 256 GB, so you can forget about the problem of insufficient memory.

MediaTek MT6763T (Helio P23) is a fairly modern chip designed for mid-range phones. The chip (despite its rather average characteristics) has a fairly modern ARM Mali-G71 video accelerator (dual-core, 770 MHz) that supports the Vulkan graphics API.

With these characteristics, you don't have to worry about the phone's performance even when running games. The device is guaranteed not to freeze or slow down during multitasking mode, moving from tab to tab will be fast.

Battery

The Oppo F5 is equipped with a 3,200mAh battery, which is pretty average. He is guaranteed to live until the evening charge, but you should not expect special miracles from him.

Test results were carried out in standard power mode (without battery saving function):

In reading mode, the smartphone will work for 18 hours, in video playback mode a little more than 12, in game mode the battery life will not exceed 6 hours. All measurements were taken using the device's average backlight level.

The Oppo F5 will charge for about two hours from the network device. The device does not support wireless charging.

Outcome

Oppo smartphones came to Russia again, this time making their target audience young people who are fond of portrait photography. Indeed, except for the camera, the Chinese device has nothing to surprise users with.

Quite unpretentious hardware, average sound, poor solutions in terms of ergonomics, somewhat overpriced (on average 18 thousand rubles) - Oppo F5 is unlikely to become a serious competitor for more famous flagships. Nevertheless, a nice design and user-friendly interface can still allow the phone to find its niche and win at least a small circle of fans in Russia. Time will tell, we wish the company good luck and look forward to new products.

Advantages:
  • widescreen display;
  • quality cameras;
  • face unlocking;
  • spectacular design.
Disadvantages:
  • lack of an NFC module;
  • average productivity;
  • plastic case.

Considering all of the above, we can guarantee that the phone can become a gift for a person who is not sophisticated in the matter of top-end devices or who like to capture his every day in a photograph.If you fall into this category, perhaps the Oppo F5 will be able to please you and last for many years.
